The Infinity Stones Tag was created by Noveltea Corner. I found out about this tag from watching The Bookish Babbler’s video. I tagged myself, because, as you may have noticed, I kinda like Marvel.

1) Space Stone (Tesseract) – A book that transported you The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin I’ll admit that I struggled with some aspects of Jemisin’s Broken Earth Trilogy, but the mastery of craft at play in the trilogy has seared these books into my mind. Each book built on the last, and the worldbuilding was so intricate, that I just –

The ending of this book is one of the best endings I’ve ever read. And I love me a good ending. I will frequently think of the setting for that final conflict and its surprising but inevitable conclusion. While the events of that ending help to sear it into my skull, the unique setting of action is a place my mind frequently visits. To say more would be a spoiler, so I’ll restrain myself.

2) Mind Stone (Loki’s Scepter) – A book that made you think There There by Tommy Orange Tommy Orange’s debut novel examines the Native community gathering in Oakland, CA for a powwow. The craft that went into this novel is astounding and that alone had me ruminating on the nature of literature and what it can accomplish and how. Orange’s prose, on a sentence by sentence level, is kind of unreal. The characterization of each point of view character is so complete and fully developed that I wished I could have a full story from each character. The fact that Orange didn’t focus on any one character, but put all the varied voices in the novel, I believe, is kind of the point. At several points during the novel, Orange leaves the perspective of any individual character to examine the story of the Native community writ large. He never shies from looking into the difficult or complicated and challenges the reader to do the same.

3) Reality Stone (Aether) – A book with an altered reality Vicious by V.E Schwab Okay, I didn’t really understand this prompt, but the sequel to Vicious comes out in a month and I’m really excited about it, so I decided it counted because I want to spread the word about this series. In the world of Vicious, there are people with extraordinary abilities, (*cough*superpowers*cough*).

That’s it. That’s the altered reality.

In semi-related news, look at the new pretty cover for Vengeful’s release.

4) Power Stone (The Orb) – A book with a character that has great potential, for good or bad The Nameless Interrogator from Sleeping Giants by Sylvan Neuvel I’ve only read the first book in the Themis Files series, so I don’t know if he gets a name later. I also don’t know if he comes to the light or breaks bad or remains delightfully morally ambiguous. Regardless, he had amazing character development in Sleeping Giants, and I can’t wait to follow his story, wherever it leads.

5) Time Stone (The Eye of Agamotto) – A book set in a different time, past or future The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows Perhaps not the most inspired answer, but I recently read this book in preparation for the movie and loved it. Then the film adaptation just dropped on Netflix, and I loved that as well. It’s World War II historical fiction, which is hardly some niche genre, but it is WWII historical fiction done very well. It’s warm and fuzzy without sacrificing the realities of the horror of war. Also, I would very much like to grow up to be Juliet Ashton. Just thought I’d put that out there.

6) Soul Stone – A book that stole your soul Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

This book is light, contemporary fluff and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I’m not a huge re-reader, but I re-read this book every year and every year I do it feels like receiving a bear hug while wearing a chunky knit sweater and holding a steaming cup of chai. Not to mix fandoms here, but Attachments would definitely qualify as a Horcrux for me.

That’s the end of the tag! If you like this tag, please feel free to do it yourself in any format you so choose and tag me so I can see your answers.
