Here is a list of things that have brightened my day this month.

CHIC-FIL-A PEACH MILKSHAKE There are a few things that are beloved specifically for the reason that a person can only get them at certain times of the year. I’m not saying these objects aren’t lovely on their own merit. I’m just saying that their scarcity adds to their allure. I love the Chic-fil-A Peach milkshake. It’s delicious and light and has huge chunks of peach in it. I don’t know how much I’d love it if I didn’t have to wait for summer to roll just to get my mitts on one, but I do have to, and, consequently, my love is intense. Well, with June, summer has officially arrived and, with it, my beloved peachy perfection. Yet another reason why summer is the best season. (Yeah, I said it. Fight me.)

THE LAST KINGDOM You may have come across my Reads&Reels for this Netflix Original Series. If you haven’t, you should check it out here. Suffice it to say that this show got me invested in a “I can’t talk about it like a rational human being, don’t look at me, I’m emotionally compromised” kind of way. Because of this show I now use “arseling” as a term of endearment. If that doesn’t pique your interest in this show, I don’t know what will.

TETLEY REDBUSH TEA I spent some of last winter in South Africa, and whilst there I discovered the magic that is rooibos. I drank it several times daily over the course of my trip. Fast forward to this month, when friends from the UK came to visit and brought with them a massive box of rooibos tea. I am both plowing through it and trying to take my time, not wanting to go through it too quickly because then all the magic will be gone. It is a predicament, but one I am most grateful to have.

THE GODFATHER My local discount theater has been hosting viewings of classic films over the course of the summer. One of the titles they were showing was The Godfather, which I’d never seen. And yes, the film is just as good as everybody says – the writing, the acting, the score, the directing, all of it is obnoxiously well done. But the film isn’t my favorite of the month. The viewing experience is. I went to a Tuesday matinee at a discount theater, and there was a crowd – not a huge crowd, but a good fifteen to twenty people, ranging from college boys to the old couple who sat behind me, the wife whispering to her husband throughout the film helping him keep up with the plot. I got to see a seminal piece of cinema up on a big screen, as God and Francis Ford Coppola intended, and I got to share that experience with others. It was movie magic, and a great way to spend a summer afternoon.
