Here is a list of things that have brightened my day this month.

In a fit of retail therapy, I went to TJ Maxx looking for some cruelty-free hygiene products. I came across Smile Dust Natural Teeth Whitening from Love Beauty Foods. It’s got five ingredients, all of which I can pronounce. Also, it WORKS. My teeth were noticeably whiter after the first use. The product is pretty messy, but I just keep my mouth closed while I’m brushing which manages to reduce most of the mess, and what little charcoal does escape all wipes up pretty easily.

My other retail therapy splurge was Jāsön’s Powersmile Whitening & Anti-Cavity Toothpaste in Powerful Peppermint. I’ll admit that my first few times using the toothpaste were discomforting. The taste was not the cool, refreshing flavor to which I was accustomed. However, I soon found that it made not just my teeth but my whole mouth feel squeaky clean and fresh. While I was traveling this month I used a travel sized tube of Colgate, and I found my mouth felt grimy and my breath wasn’t as fresh. After a month of using Jāsön’s, I don’t even notice the taste anymore, and my mouth is grateful for the change in product.

Despite what the previous two entries may have led you to believe, I am not an impulse buyer. Normally when I see something I want, and I go home, I research it and research it some more, then I wait a few months. If, after all that, I’m still thinking about a product, THEN I will go purchase it. I was just coming near to the end of this deliberating process considering S’well water bottles. I had decided I was going to go ahead and purchase one when a friend surprised me by giving me one. I love it. I haven’t tried any hot beverages yet, but it works excellently at keeping my drinks cold. Consequently, I’ve been drinking more water which is lovely. I’m particularly happy with the seal. I throw the bottle into my bag and never have to worry about the books/journal I invariably carry with me getting wet and warped.

I know, I know. Just last month I was talking about how I can never find music, and now I have an album on my favorites. What can I say? I had never even heard of Laura Marling until I watched this video, but, with a name like Semper Femina, there was no way I wasn’t going to check this album out. I’ve had it on repeat ever since. I find the melodies so soft and enchanting. One day I sat down and listened to the entire album through while reading lyrics for all the songs. I never do that - ever. I look forward to exploring her back catalog when I finally wear myself out on this album.

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE

“Who can chokehold a bear? (BATMAN!)/Who never skips leg day? (BATMAN!)/Who always pays his taxes? (NOT BATMAN!)” With one purple and green exception, I thought this movie was EXCELLENT. You can read my full review here.
